hey gideon it all depends where in mozambique you are going at ponta da oura you are not allowed to shoot bottoms only game fish and can not get a permit for bottoms and dont need a permit for game fish,but if you are going higher up to Xai-Xai Barra etc.You can shoot bottoms game fish Etc.and can buy a perMit at any officer there but you hardly ever see any.about R300 for the permit but dont worry you can shoot without it!heheheh

Only his speargun and float have been found. I've seen nothing in the papers neither. He is said to be 33 years old and was alone.

Having seen the Freedivers competition doccie on DSTv this week I was aghast to see the way this portrayed the sport of spearfishing. Isn't it about time spearfishing comps stopped weighing bottom fish. It was disheartening to see the rockcods, parrotfish and other reef dwelling fish being weighed. This can only give spearfishing a bad name amopng he general public. Most of us decry the bottom fishing practised by skiboat fishermen, yetr here we have champion freedivers spearing anything that moves. As George Askew wrote a while back, unless we get our house in order ourselves, others will do it for us.

He is livid [And so am I] and so are the locals. Seems Spearfishing could / will be banned shortly.Whether this only applies to the Inhaca area or the whole of the coast I can`t say.What aggravates this matter is that it is recurrent.Whether it is the same irresponsible and Greedy spearos each time, I don’t at this stage know.These Idiot Cretins are cleaning out Inhaca. And plenty of reefies incl Parrotfish are being slaughtered. Tons of fillets are going out in freezers. The locals are being abused and local authority scoffed at and threatened. Generally very racist.It is exactly this STUPID type of behaviour that creates animosity towards us.As you may remember it was not so long ago that via the Moz Consul I was able to stop a Spearfishing ban being gazetted. The sentiment was there to “Punish us” and I can assure you it is stronger this time. Be prepared to kiss spearing Good-bye up there.The main problems are totally inadequate policing and controls, and corruption due to high bribes.Just remember it will be much easier to ban outright than to control the policing and enforcement of permits etcAnd really they can survive without the spearos visiting. Seems most of the chaps are self sufficient and bring everything. They do not contribute much to the economy. They will not be missed.I urge you … Find out who these dolts are and get word to them to desist immediately, then get word to SA Spearfishing who should go and see the Ministers of Tourism of SA and Moz. Appointments must be set up ASAPLast year I submitted an Ocean Management proposal and suggestions of how to control / regulate spearing to the Moz Govt If they remember it and use it. Great. No problems. Only 3 fish a day and NO Reefies, a small Permit fee etc Not the old days, but at least we would still have a sport.Any delegation or initiative are welcome to use this work to save time.We as a society must act and be seen to act. And act FAST.This matter must receive maximum visibility.We have to show an authoritive, responsible and concerned face.Punishment must be severe but fair.Please guys treat this with the seriousness it deserves. Mark; I own a Necky Spike and am more than satisfied with it. It's the only kayak I have used so far but going through breakers etc at Umkomaas and Ballito taught me a few things crucial when selecting a kayak. Unfortunately the C-Kayak falls well below what you need in a spearfishing kayak. Most important are secondary stability, rudder/skeg, keel to break the waves and responsiveness. I'd suggest you forget about the C-Kayak unless you want to spearfish in Hartebeespoort dam. Rather have a look at a fishingski at http://www.fishingski.co.za. My neighbour bought two of these for spearfishing purposes. I haven't experienced the fishingski at all but it looks just right.

What I also saw that might get you on track to solve your problem is that they loaded their bands one at a time. In other words the two bands is not connected via a wishbone but somehow hooks onto the shaft separately. This means that you only need half the power to load your gun in two steps instead of one.
