There are two types of baardman. The larger one is found in cape waters
and grows to 12kg. Thesmaller slender baardman is found in Natal and grows
to 8kg. These fish congregate on the sandnear hot spots. They have the ability
of changing colour from a silvery colour on the sand toblack when on the
reef. Lying motionless on the sand next to the reef will normally bring
thesefish in to have a look. Sometimes it is necessary to follow a big one
as he swims away and takea quick shot. These fish have very soft flesh and
any shot above the spine will tear off.

Banksteenbras B.F.(Grey 8kg Red 4kg)
The banksteenbras is not found in kwazulu natal but inhabits the cooler cape waters. They are a uniform grey in colour and extend up as far as the east london coast. They are fairly easy to approach and prefer sandy bottoms and rocky ledges.
