Cape Knifejaw to Kob

Cape Knifejaw

Cape knifejaw
Cape Knifejaw ( Cuckoo Bass ) B.F.4kg
Along the Natal coast these fish are found as far north as the Tugela river, being more common in the south. They need no hunting technique as they are very aggressive and will approach you as soon as you come into their territory. You can use this trait to let them lead you to the hot spot. By chasing them and following they should lead you to the cave where the other shyer fish are hiding.

Mozambique Knifejaw

The Bumphead as he is commonly known, prefers warm waters and is not found further south than Natal waters in any numbers. They are not as aggressive as the cuckoo bass and you need to lie on the bottom to get them to come within shooting range. They will be on the fish hot spot near a cave or prominent pinnacle. Deep Scottburgh has some big fish.

Kob / Daga Salmon

Daga
They are found from the cape coast to Zululand waters and are more commonly speared by Natal divers in the winter months, July to October. They are a shy fish and lying on the bottom near a likely spot is the best way to bag one. They favour big drop-offs, caves and wrecks and are easier to shoot when in caves as they are not as spooky as out in the open. A head shot is best as they put up a tremendous fight and are well known for bending spears. The wreck of the Nebo is one of the better known spots for shooting these fish.
