Batfish to Bonito
Batfish
Batfish having grey flesh and being not very good eating are not speared by divers. Some new divers mistake them for spadefish. The long pelvic fins of the batfish are different to the shorter ones on the spadefish. Once you become used to them, the difference from the spadefish is quite marked.

Black Beauty
Black Beauty
This is a deep water fish and is a very rare catch for divers. To date this
is the only one that has been shot and was taken in 40m+.
Blacktail
Blacktail B.F. 1kg
These fish are found all around our coast and favour rocky pinnacles where
they swim in big shoals. They are generally too small to interest divers
but make excellent eating. They attract garrick so it is sometimes worthwhile
hanging around a big shoal for this reason.
Bonefish
Bonefish
Not often seen by divers as they hunt in the shallows on sandy bottoms.
They are also full of bones and do not make for good eating.
Atlantic Bonito
Bonito(atlantic)B.F.2kg
The distinct longitudinal stripes along the lower sides of the body identify
this fish. It is abundant off the east coast in summer. They prey on small
fish in big shoals and can be seen breaking the surface. They are not easy
to shoot as they seem to be swimming at high speed most of the time.
