Mabibi is situated roughly 26km north of Sodwana bay and since the beach driving ban has only been accessible from the NCS camp that is found here. In the late eighties we used to often launch from Sodwana and boat dive the 18m scattered reefs off here that were excellent for cuda. There was a big Zambezi shark resident in the area at that time that had a taste for junk food. Any flashers used in his presence were soon snapped up yet he hardly ever troubled us over the fish that we shot. This is now a popular spot for the fishing-ski fraternity where the lack of vehicular access to the beach is not a problem for them. The campsite located in the forest behind the dunes is a lovely setting although rights to a lodge have been granted for this spot so who knows what will happen in the future.
