This is just one of the many smaller offshore reefs in the 20 to 30 m depth range that can be found along the coast of False Bay south of the Roman Rock reef complex, where there are a moderate number of scattered granite outcrops of various sizes, many of which are virtually unknown. Like the other wrecks of Smitswinkel Bay, the MV Orotava is reasonably accessible and a popular dive site for both local and visiting divers. The dive is moderately deep, but within the comfort range for many recreational divers, and the area is fairly well protected from the prevailing swell. The depth also protects the wrecks from the worst of the storm surge which would otherwise have broken them up much sooner. The Orotava is one of the better preserved wrecks [...]

This site is in the controlled zone of the Table Mountain National Park Marine Protected Area (proclaimed in 2004). A permit is required. The site is off Rocklands point, just north of Millers Point. Omega reef is a relatively large example of the granite outcrops along the lower edge of the inshore slope near the 30 m contour, which are quite common in this part of False Bay between Simon's Town and Smitswinkel Bay. An area of reef to the northwest of Whittle Rock which has probably never been dived previously. The highest point is at about 19 m depth, and the surrounding sand is at about 30 m. The extent of the reef is not yet known, but it will be considerably smaller than the main reef at Whittle Rock.
