The Brunswick was an English East Indiaman of 1 200 tons, an armed merchant ship of 30 guns that transported goods between Britain and the East Indies. She was captured while homeward-bound on her sixth voyage with a cargo of sandalwood and cotton by Admiral Linois on the French vessel Marengo in 1805, and brought to Simon's Town as a prize of war. The rock is large and conspicuous and easily recognised. It is just offshore and south of Miller's Point. This site is in a Marine Protected Area (2004). A permit is required. Boat Rock itself, and much of the contiguous reef is outside the Castle Rocks Restricted Zone, but the southern parts of the reef and Festival Pinnacle are within the restricted zone. Caravan Reef is a large area of granite reef to the north east of the slipway at Miller's Point, and as such is very close to the launch area. One would think that it would be a popular dive site, but it is largely unexplored, unlike the adjacent wreck of the SAS Pietermaritzburg, which is one of the most frequently dived sites on the Cape Peninsula. Oatlands Point is the first point south of the Froggy Pond area. There is a small group of houses on the seaward side of the main road, and more houses up the mountainside. It is easily recognised by the large flattish topped granite boulder just offshore. This site is in a Marine Protected Area (2004). A permit is required.
